    • The Census of 1855 showed Elijah living with his family in Warrensburgh in alog house worth $25. He was a farmer and couldn't read or write. By 1865 thefamily was in a frame house also worth $25. They had had 11 children by thattime, but only 8 were living with them (the other 3 may have died young).Elijah's farm was worth about $1,000, his stock $1,000 and his tools andimplements were worth about $100. The 1870 Census revealed that he had splithis farm with his oldest son, Nelson. Nelson was still living at home and didnot appear to be married. See the Agricultural Statistics of 1865 Census ofWarrensburgh, NY. On March 1, 1864 Elijah's two eldest sons, Nelson andJohnathan enlisted in the NY Voluntary Army to fight in the Civil War. Theyentered as privates. See 1865 Military Census of Warrensburgh, NY. Accordingto the census of 1870 none of the children could write and little Reuben, age6, couldn't read or write. By the Census of 1892, Elijah was dead and Mary,his wife was living with Darias and Rosetta and Rosella in Warrensburgh. Marywas listed as housekeeper at age 64 and Darius was a laborer at age 37. Nosign of a wife for Darius. The twin girls were 20.
      The Census of 1850 showed Elijah living in Johnsburg, NY - per "Rist Fami ly History" by Leslie Rist of newcomb, chapter VI, p. 20.

      The Census of 1855 showed Elijah living with his family in Warrensbur gh in a log house worth $25. He was a farmer and couldn't read or write.

      Elijah moved his wife and younger children west sometime between 1870 a nd 1874, and the Census of 1880 in Paris, Linn County, Kansas lists his ho usehold as consisting of:

      Elijah stated that his parents had been born in England, but probably mea nt New England.


      By the Census of 1892, Elijah was dead and Mary, his wife, was living wi th their son Darias and daughters Rosetta and Rosella back in Warrensburg h, NY. Mary was listed as housekeeper at age 64 and Darius was a labor er at age 37. No sign of a wife for Darius. The twin girls were 20.
