There is also a white woman between 70 and 80 years of age, that was probably the mother to either Sarah or William. In addition to the 5 whites, there were 12 slaves living in the household.

      Samuel (6, M, KY)
      Madison (3, M, KY)
      Susan L. (7 mos, F, KY)

Note that George Madison is listed simply as Madison in this census, and it appears that Susan's name is spelled Sausan L. There is also what appears to be small marks in the column marked "Value of Real Estate Owned" next to William S. Venable's name. I don't know if this means the same amount as the person above him, or simply that there wasn't any real estate for this gentleman. Also, age for William S. would mean that he was born in approximately 1800, not 1804.

I am not positive that this is our William S., but I believe that he is living with his daughter Virginia and her new husband. The locations of birth are correct, and William may be living with them temporarily due to the death of his wife, Sarah.

    • VENABLE, William -- White, male, 75 years old, head of household, widowed
VENABLE, William Jr. -- White, male, 30 years old, son, single
VENABLE, Susan -- White, female, 25 years old, daughter, single

William is listed as being only 30? This would have meant he was born in 1850..........

Susan should have been listed as being 30 years old, as she was listed as 7 months old on the 1850 census. However, this may have been done to hide the fact that she was getting older and was still unmarried.

  • Notes
    • (Research):I believe that Richard H. Venable and Abraham Venable Jr. were both brothers to William. This would make Abraham Venable and Anne Hundly Venable his parents. Richard H. and Abraham Jr. live very close to William on the 1830 census. In 1840, Richard H. is living next door to Abraham Sr.

Re: C.P Church Liberty (cited as William's burial place in his obituary)
Found the following note online dated 14 Mar 2003: Liberty is now called Burnt Prairie. The cemetery is across the road from the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, which has been re-activated in recent years. Wikipedia states the entire town was renamed from Liberty to Burnt Prairie.

Website published online by Amy Venerable (http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/v/e/n/Amy-Wine-Venerable/index.html) states she believes that William is the son of James Venable and Sarah Dean, who were married in Bath Co, VA on 02 Oct 1797. Sally also went by the name of Sarah, and was the daughter of John Dean and Agnes Mcclanahan. Amy seems to think that this Sarah/Sally would have married a Richardson, and finally Robert Kent, meaning that it was William's mother who left him land and slaves at the time of her death in 1831.
