  • Notes
    • In addition to his many talents and education, Ruel was also an author. His publications include the 1836 English translation of Ernst Wilhelm Hengstenberg's book Christologie des Alten Testements, or "Christology of the Old Testament."

Reverend and Doctor Keith graduated from Vermont's Middlebury College in 1814. He studied for the ordained ministry under John Prentiss Kewly Henshaw and was ordained deacon on May 10, 1817. He became assistant to the rector at St. John's, Georgetown, (then District of Columbia), while at St. John's, and he helped to establish Christ Church in Washington. Her served there as its rector 1817 to 1820. In 1820 he resigned from this position to accept the chair of humanity and history at William and Mary College in Williamsburg.

In October 1823, Ruel became a professor at Virginia Theological Seminary. He received his Doctorate of Divinity degree from Vermont's Middlebury College in 1827. On June 30th, 1831 he traveled on horse back in pouring rain from Alexandria to Arlington and officiated at young Second Lieutenant Robert E. Lee's Wedding (who would later become General, Commanding, of the Confederate States of America). He remained at Virginia Theological Seminary until 1840 when due to poor health, he returned to Vermont.

Has D.D. (Doctorate of Divinity) after his last name on stone.
